- When I was young, I questioned the meaning of life. If the meaning of life is something that even my mother cannot answer, then it must be that there is no meaning. Because I was very young, it mattered a lot to me what my mother thought since I could not figure it out alone.
Pg. 33 - "Then once, around midnight, I came to a hall in ruins. The cows in their pens lay burbling blood through their nostrils, with javelin holes in their necks. None had been eaten. The watchdogs lay like dark wet stones, with their heads cut off, teeth bared."
- After seeing this and hearing what the dragon thought about the world not having meaning to it, I thought that existence was meaningless. If everything is going to end, then it would not matter if it was there or not. Even the cows and dogs were there physically, but they were dead, so it did not matter for them to be there.
Pg. 68 - "Importance is derived from the immanence of the infinitude in the finite."
- this means that the importance of all the endless existence of life and of God is obtained by having an end. I do not understand exactly what this means, but I think the quote has a negative meaning towards the meaning of life.
Pg. 174 - "'Poor Grendel's had an accident,' I whisper. 'So may you all.'"
- When I said this, I meant that through an accident any existence of life can come to an end. I meant that everyone should not have too much pride in themselves, but I also meant that if everything is going to come to an end, then there is no meaning for life. If we know that we only exist for a limited amount of time, then it does not matter to be here.
